Discussions to Identify Opportunities for Joint Collaboration on the Second Day of the International Meeting in Smolyan
On October 18, 2024, the international meeting on "Exchange of Experience and Best Practices at the Municipal Level between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Greece in Providing Social Protection and Labor Market Access for Vulnerable Population Groups" concluded in Smolyan.
The second day of the event focused on practical exchanges and the development of new ideas for future cross-border cooperation. Organized by the HRDRIC at the Regional Directorate in Smolyan, the event attracted representatives from both countries who discussed critical topics concerning the social integration of vulnerable groups and perspectives for cross-border institutional partnerships.
The day began with participants divided into three working groups, each focusing on key topics: the exchange of best practices, joint campaigns, and training programs. The primary goal of each group was to formulate specific project proposals addressing shared needs of both countries in the areas of social protection and labor market integration.
Discussions were held in a spirit of mutual understanding and open dialogue, with experts from both countries sharing successful practices already proven effective at the local level. As a result, each group presented their ideas in a plenary session. Among the proposals were the organization of joint training programs for social workers, cross-border initiatives to improve labor market access for people with disabilities, and information campaigns aimed at raising awareness of the rights of vulnerable groups.
The proposals were welcomed by the Greek colleagues and formed a basis for future collaboration. This exchange aimed not only at sharing best practices but also actively creating joint projects to promote social development in the cross-border region. Special attention was given to funding opportunities for these initiatives through European programs, encouraging participants to be proactive in developing innovative solutions.
The Smolyan event not only underscored the importance of cross-border cooperation but also initiated concrete actions to be further developed in the coming months. These bilateral projects will support not only vulnerable groups but also communities that can benefit from shared experience and expertise across neighboring countries.
It is expected that these discussions will fuel further project initiatives, solidifying the partnership between Bulgaria and Greece in providing social protection and labor market access for vulnerable groups.
